The fronds are what make villa living on Palm Jumeirah distinctive. Branching off the island's central trunk, each frond is lined on both sides with villas, and every home opens onto its own stretch of private beach. Which side of a frond a villa sits on matters: an easterly aspect tends to favour sunrise and calmer inner-island views, while a westerly aspect leans towards sunset and more open water. Palm Jumeirah has 16 residential fronds lettered A to P (often quoted as 17). Fronds A to H run up the eastern side of the trunk (the Burj Al Arab side), starting with A nearest the mainland, and fronds I to P run back down the western side (the Dubai Marina side), ending with P nearest the mainland. Frond by frond, A to P
Palm Jumeirah has 16 residential fronds lettered A to P, although you will often see 17 quoted. Fronds A to H run up the eastern side of the trunk (the Burj Al Arab side), starting with A nearest the mainland. Villa types on the fronds
About 1,400 villas line the fronds, according to KEO, the original villa design consultant. Canal Cove homes sit at the base of several fronds, with three or four bedrooms. Garden Homes are the most common villa, with four or five bedrooms. Signature Villas sit on the wider plots and the tips, with five to seven bedrooms, and fronds G, H, I, J and N carry custom built villas on larger plots.
Choosing a side
On the eastern side (fronds A to H) the view runs towards Burj Al Arab and the Jumeirah coast. On the western side (fronds I to P) it runs towards the Dubai Marina towers and the evening sun. Fronds closer to the trunk are quicker to reach; fronds towards the crescent feel quieter. Visit at the time of day you would use the garden and beach most.
