Dubai has two seasons. From roughly October to April you get warm days, cooler evenings and little rain. The city moves outdoors: beaches, terraces, parks and rooftop restaurants are all comfortable, and you can book property viewings back to back.

From June to September the heat peaks. Daytime temperatures often pass 40C, and humidity climbs, especially near the coast. Everything indoors is air conditioned, so daily life carries on, but carrying boxes, repeat viewings and exploring neighbourhoods on foot all get harder.

May and late September sit in between: hot but short of the extreme, and flights and short-term stays often cost less. If you can choose freely, arrive in the cooler half of the year and the practical work of relocating gets noticeably easier.

For families, school places often matter more than the weather. Most Dubai schools run a September to June year with the main intake in September, so a summer arrival lets children start with everyone else.

Many schools also take pupils in January, which suits mid-year moves. Popular schools and certain year groups fill up, and strong schools may have waiting lists, with applications, assessments and offers taking weeks or months. Availability, not the season, is the real limit.

If schooling drives your move, secure places first and let them set your arrival date, even if that means landing in the hot months. Working back from an offer beats arriving and scrambling for a place.

Dubai hiring comes in two waves. The first runs from September into November, when the summer slowdown ends and budgets reopen. The second runs from January to March, as new annual budgets and headcount plans take effect.

Deep summer can be quieter, which sometimes helps tenants on price, though the choice may be narrower. Get your paperwork ready either way: many landlords ask for a residency visa or work contract, post-dated cheques are still common, and agency and deposit costs are due upfront.

Book short-term accommodation for the first few weeks, view in person once you arrive, and sign only after you know the building and community. That way you never commit to a long lease sight unseen.

Ramadan is the annual month of fasting, and its dates move about eleven days earlier each year on the Gregorian calendar. Working hours are shorter, some government and business processes run more slowly, and daytime dining is quieter as many people fast until sunset. Evenings are lively once the fast is broken.

You can move during Ramadan without trouble, but expect approvals and appointments to take a little longer, and plan viewings and errands around the daytime rhythm.
